Our Core Values

These values guide how we work together every day. They don’t just sit in a dusty document—they evolve and change as our company grows.

We believe good relationships are the bedrock of every successful client engagement, and form the basis of how we operate internally. Relationships are not a “nice-to-have,” they’re a prerequisite for affecting change within a client’s organization and in our own agency.

How we exemplify this value:

  • We’re invested in each other’s growth
  • We’re our own account managers
  • We value and develop our “soft” skills
  • We get to know our clients beyond a surface level

When we say we’re outcome-driven, we mean we value outcomes over inputs. Whether we’re doing client work or focusing on internal projects, we keep the “North star” goal in mind and chart the most direct and efficient path possible.

How we exemplify this value:

  • We celebrate each other’s results
  • We track outcomes, not hours
  • We act as helpful advisors to our clients
  • Outcome-based reporting that passes the “so what” filter

We strive to be better, we stretch ourselves, and we push each other to grow. We do this while building a respectful, fulfilling work environment.

In order to achieve that, we approach work with a sense of calm ambition.

How we exemplify this value:

  • We support skill development
  • We respect coworkers’ time
  • We create healthy boundaries
  • We manage client expectations

We believe that people thrive when they have control of their lives. Autonomy is not just a critical factor in job satisfaction, but a determinant of your overall well-being.

At Uproer, autonomy means empowering people to make their own choices and pursue intrinsic motivations.

How we exemplify this value:

  • Flexible vacation policy
  • Offline Fridays
  • Control over your calendar
  • Ownership of client engagements

As a member of the Uproer team, you’re not just allowed to play a part in helping us evolve, it’s a central part of your job. We value contributions based on their merits rather than the job title or experience level of the person making them.

We believe valuable ideas can come from everywhere.

How we exemplify this value:

  • Voluntary committees
  • Collaborative quarterly rocks
  • Internal advancement opportunities
  • Transparency around company initiatives

Mistakes happen and failure is inevitable. What matters is that we act with integrity. We’d rather fail while doing the right thing than succeed while doing the wrong thing.

We take initiative, acknowledge issues, and ask for help when it's needed.

How we exemplify this value:

  • We invite honest conversations
  • We help people reach their goals
  • We don’t BS our clients
  • We deliver and expect feedback

How It All Started

Uproer was founded in May 2017 on the belief that there’s a middle market of clients who can greatly benefit from tapping into search marketing experts with “big agency” experience without the big agency rates. Our brief, yet sustained, success is proving that hypothesis to be true.

Since then, Uproer has grown from being one person’s moonlighting gig to a team of more than a dozen ambitious search marketers. As our team has expanded beyond the Twin Cities, so too has our client base. Our Zoom calls connect us to New York, San Francisco, Austin and across the globe to Australia and Japan.

As our reach has grown, our focus has narrowed. We’re committed to being the best search marketing agency for SaaS and ecommerce companies. We hope you’ll join us on that journey.

Join Our Team!

We’re always on the lookout for talented search marketers. If you’re motivated to advance your career with a company that truly values work-life balance, then we’d love to meet you.

Founder & CEO

Griffin Roer

Griffin discovered SEO in 2012 during a self-taught web development course and hasn’t looked back. After years of working as an SEO consultant to some of the country’s largest retail and tech brands, Griffin pursued his entrepreneurial calling of starting an agency in May of 2017.

Outside of work, Griffin enjoys going to concerts and spending time with his wife, two kids, and four pets.

Griffin’s DiSC style is D. He’s driven to set and achieve goals quickly, which helps explain why he’s built his career in the fast-paced agency business. Griffin’s most valuable contributions to the workplace include his motivation to make progress, his tendency towards bold action, and his willingness to challenge assumptions.

Sr. Manager, SEO & Operations

Dave Sewich

Dave made an accidental foray into digital marketing after graduating from the University of Minnesota Duluth and hasn’t looked back. Having spent the first part of his marketing journey brand-side, he now works with the Uproer team to help clients realize their goals through the lens of search.

When not at work, you’ll find Dave staying active and living a healthy lifestyle, listening to podcasts, and enjoying live music. A Minnesotan born and raised, his favorite sport is hockey and he still finds time to skate once in a while.

Dave’s DiSC style is C. He enjoys getting things done deliberately and systematically without sacrificing speed and efficiency. When it comes to evaluating new ideas and plans, he prefers to take a logical approach, always sprinkling on a bit of healthy skepticism for good measure. At work, Dave’s happiest when he has a chance to dive deep into a single project for hours at a time. He loves contributing to Uproer and being a part of a supportive team but is most productive when working solo.

Sr. Manager, SEO & Talent

Jess Girardi

Jess got her start in digital marketing interning for a tiny startup in Sydney, Australia, building it up to be Australia’s leading search marketing agency. After three years as a leader in the Australian search field, Jess decided to move abroad and landed in Minneapolis in the middle of a snowstorm. The midwest winter was no match for her sunny disposition, and she’s now lived in MPLS since 2019.

Outside of work, Jess loves the outdoors. You can find her canoeing, camping, or just strolling around one of the many Minnesotan lakes.

Jess’ DiSC style is I. She’ll also tell you that she’s a Gemini vegetarian, ENFJ, Enneagram 7, and all-around woo-girl because she just wants to find ways to connect with you. Jess is an energetic storyteller who brings people together and aligns them to a common goal by generating excitement. At work, Jess takes action and is always on the hunt for the most innovative, thoughtful, and impactful ways to drive value for her team and clients.

Manager, Paid Search

John Smith

John is frankly just happy to be included. After a soiree with Chemistry in college, he wanted to find a career that would blend his passion for good creative and insightful analysis. He stumbled into digital marketing but quickly found it was the perfect fit for him and his caffeine-fueled curiosity.

Outside of work, you’ll likely see John at the gym or hammering away at a keyboard, working to learn as much as he can about the world of paid search.

John’s DiSC style is CD, which means he is a digital optical disc data storage format that was co-developed by Philips and Sony to store and play digital audio recordings. In addition to being a dedicated auto storage medium, he is a driven employee. He enjoys challenges and likes to see the impact of his work. He values efficiency and takes a no-nonsense approach to work but a complete nonsense approach to life.

Sr. Analyst, Paid Search

Tatiana Hasbargen

Tatiana was exposed to search marketing in college and quickly became interested in Paid Search. Uproer caught her interest as an agency that gives each client the same priority and creativity needed to develop a cohesive strategy.

When she’s not wearing her marketing hat, Tatiana loves to spend as much time as she can outside. In the winter, she enjoys walking, snowboarding, snowshoeing, and reading as much as possible.

Tatiana’s DiSC style is CD. Her approach to life and work boils down to a good balance of logical, rational problem-solving, honesty, and skepticism. She’s not afraid to take on a challenge or challenge the status quo. Especially if it means generating better results and improving efficiencies. While she loves to take deep dives into projects alone, she is energized by working with and supporting others however she can.

Sr. Analyst, SEO

Skye Sonnega

Skye got her start in SEO and digital marketing while interning for a sustainable bamboo toilet paper company during the toilet paper shortage of 2020. Skye is from Northfield, MN, and graduated from St. Olaf College in 2021. At Uproer, she pioneered the SEO Analyst + Copywriter position and is the company’s first internal copywriter.

Outside of work, Skye enjoys painting, drawing, making curated Spotify playlists, and anything that involves snow and a pair of skis.

Skye’s DiSC style is S, and she’s also a Virgo, ENFJ! Skye is energized by collaboration and harmonious team environments. Her empathetic work style shows through making an effort to help everyone feel heard and included. She’ll have your back if you need extra support on a project and finds joy in creating helpful systems and procedures for both internal and client-related projects. Skye is motivated by taking action, and once a project is in place, she’ll see it through to the end.

Sr. Analyst, Paid Search

Andy Strager

Andy got his start in marketing after a pivot in college. Deciding music was better as a hobby instead of a profession, he wanted to find a career that blends creativity with analysis.SEO caught his eye as a profession that lets him geek out with spreadsheets but also allows creative problem solving. He hasn’t looked back since.

When not at work, Andy enjoys cooking the latest recipe he can find while listening to a record. If not in the kitchen you can find him with his wife and daughter embarking on whatever day trip they can find.

SEO Analyst

Sofie Walz

Sofie’s career path was a bit squiggly, starting off as an elementary educator. Plans changed, and her master’s program led her to an interest in digital marketing. After learning the ropes of SEO and web analytics working as a UX Researcher and Strategist at an agency, she is now an SEO Analyst at Uproer and is just thrilled to be here.

When not at work, Sofie enjoys playing board games with her husband, trying out a new recipe without setting off the fire alarm, and finding the next destination for a weekend trip. She is also always busy making sure her cat’s food bowl is topped off.

SEO Analyst

Maren Stibbe

Maren is a recent graduate of the Hubbard School of Journalism & Mass Communication within the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. After getting her start in SEO through an internship at Uproer, she joined the team as an SEO Analyst.

When not at work, Maren enjoys yoga and amateur photography. She is also an avid cat lover, so she loves spending time with her parents’ cats.

Content Specialist

Alyssa Broussard

Alyssa made the switch into digital marketing after four years of teaching high school. While her start in digital marketing centered around offer creation, she now applies learning theories to content creation!

When not at work, Alyssa enjoys cooking and crafting, but most importantly, she loves spending time with her daughters. On the rare occasion she has a night to herself, you can find her binging the latest season of Below Deck!

Alyssa’s DiSC style is Si. She loves the creativity that accompanies SEO, specifically finding ways to genuinely connect with others through content. She loves to find ways to work that

Director, SEO

Kavi Kardos

Kavi got her start in SEO on the agency side, and after spending several years working in-house, she's excited to be back in a role where she can contribute to a wide variety of clients' growth. She has been featured as a speaker at brightonSEO and Pubcon, on Moz's Whiteboard Friday, and in publications and podcasts across the digital marketing industry.

Outside of work, Kavi hosts pub quizzes around Austin, TX, where she lives with her cat Pfeffernusse and partner Tim. She spends her free time playing poker competitively, throwing axes competitively, and watching baseball competitively.

Kavi's DiSC style is iD. She's also an ENTP, Enneagram 7, and Virgo/Cancer/Sagittarius who loves personality tests. Kavi is quick to share opinions and push for results. An extrovert through and through, she thrives on interaction and collaboration and fears disapproval and monotony. She approaches new projects often with energy and momentum, but also likes to focus on the details and can sometimes get lost for hours in a complex Google Sheet.
